I wonder how can I record interviewee's audio response in qualtrics?
@BellaYang What is an example of what your are wanting to do and why audio?
I want to ask survey taker to VERBALLY answer some questions.

An example maybe: Question: "What is your opinion of this poem? Give quick verbal response by recording your response!" Then maybe there is a button for recording that they can click, and then they can record their voice.

That's good idea!

But there may happen that few respondent may not be able to answer this because of reasons like place they are taking the survey, no access to mic, background noise etc.

You can use open ended question.
@BellaYang,

You could integrate the Web Speech API SpeechRecognition controller into Qualtrics, but it is only supported on Chrome browsers.

Had the same problem, I wanted to collect some voice data to supplement a product-testing study. It looked like more and more people were looking for the same; so I ended up building out an audio-first survey platform at www.phonic.ai.
Feel free to check it out, we've just added a Qualtrics integration. Threw together a demo survey if you're interested (linked below).
PHONIC

https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/comment/27269#Comment_27269Hello there - it looks like the integration is still in Beta - any chance I can be a tester?
Thanks!

JMaca Embedded is now fully supported! Check out the guide here:
Integrate With Qualtrics · Phonic DocsPlease feel free to reach out at contact@phonic.ai if you have any questions and I'm happy to help.

Hi mcatoen , thanks for your useful information!
I follow the instruction on your link: https://docs.phonic.ai/docs/integrate-with-qualtrics; however, it doesn't work on my qualtrics survey.
Please see my attached photos. It seems that I did something wrong?
Thanks very much!

https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/comment/31855#Comment_31855You weren't in source mode <> when you pasted the phonic script in the survey header.

Yeaaaah!!!
It works! Thank you very much TomG . You save me!
Have a nice weekend!

Hi all,
The audio survey in phonics is fine but I don't know why qualtrics survey (in both desktop chrome and safari iphone) doesn't allow respondents to upload the audio. I also could not find the data from qualtrics in phonic.
If you know how to solve, please help me.
Thanks for your helps!

Make sure the surveyid and questionid are correct in the element (they shouldn't include 'YOUR-SURVEY-' or 'YOUR-QUESTION-').

Hi TomG
Thank you so much!!! You are right, I exclude the 'YOUR-SURVEY-' or 'YOUR-QUESTION-' then I can upload the record.
Great!
Wish you all the best!

Hello,
Do you know about the compliance policies of phonic?
Are they protected as in qualtrics?
It is a nice solution, but I am afraid about the phonic policies on data.
Bests and Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Camila! Apologies for the lag in response. Phonic has their data policies hosted here if you need them: https://www.phonic.ai/privacy.

Hello TomG and mcatoen ! We are using this plugin to audio record the entire survey, so that we can audit it later for quality purposes (we have IRB approval to do so). But our survey has multiple pages. We want to be able to click record once the individual consents to have audio recording (page 1), and then submit the audio at the end of the survey (page 4). But the submit button for the audio recording is all the way on page 1. We have tried to just end the survey through qualtrics, but the recording only goes into our Phonics account if we go all the way back to page 1 and click the submit button for the audio. Is there a solution to move the audio recording submit button to the final page of the survey?

This is brilliant! Thanks for the info mcatoen.

Using the audio widget made collecting voice responses easy.

TomG It wasn't fully clear to me - did you help with the  https://docs.phonic.ai/docs/integrate-with-qualtrics process or just the Web Speech API? I have a use who wants to do the same - collect audio responses for their survey. Did you try out the phonic site? Do you recommend it?
See this is what happens when you become a 'trusted' person!

and as I'm investigating:
The link on "Getting Started" returns an error
Step 1: Sign In
Sign into both your Qualtrics and Phonic accounts. If you don't have a Phonic account, go to Phonic and make one.
And curious: if a user were to try to use the integration, I'm assuming it has to be set up for the organization if they have an organizational account (vs. an individual account)?

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/42661#Comment_42661Yes, I've used Phonic to capture audio. It works well.

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/31861#Comment_31861Linh, hello, I am currently incorporating the same Phonic feature into my Qualtrics survey. Similar to the problem pinned above, an error message pops up saying Qualtrics won't allow me to submit the audio recording. However I can access the recording on Phonic. I really would like to not have that error message pop up while my participants are filling out the survey. Were you able to figure out a way to have the "Submit" button work properly with no error message? Thanks!

Thank you mcatoen for providing this information. Unfortunately, I cannot get the voice recording option to come up on my survey (both in edit and preview mode). Is there something that I am missing? I should also note that once I enter the code into the header text box, it disappears after I go back to the main survey outline in Qualtrics.

I entered: ">https://api.phonic.ai/phonic-embed.min.js"> into header text box under General >Look and Feel and clicked apply.

Question here about Phonic @TomG if that’s okay? Do you know if phonic works with loop & merge, specifically is there a way to save information that links the phonic video to the loop fields in any way?

You would have to map each loop to individual Phonic audio questions. I haven’t done it, but I imagine you could make a loop & merge field a Phonic question id and pipe the ids into the phone question id field.

Thank you! I was actually also able to alter the HTML to call on the lm fields to alter the session ID in phonic which seemed easy.
