Allow multiple answers across grouped list

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

Have been waiting on support to follow up so I am urgently throwing this out to the community since we have to launch this survey ASAP.

We have a lengthy multiple response list that is grouped by topic for easier respondent viewing.  It is setup as allowing multiple responses and the groups are randomized since that’s the only way to randomize the list it seems, which is fine.

However, even though it clear says ‘Allow multiple answers,’ it is only allowing one answer.   Chat support on Friday could not figure out what was going on and elevated it, but tells me it is still pending.  Is there any rationale reason in terms of settings this would be happening? Something else we should be doing in settings?  I seemed to be working as multi select before but I can’t pinpoint what changed / when / why.  Do groupings prohibit multiple answers across groups?

Yes - happy to help.  It is simple.  As a reminder, I had a lengthy multiple choice list that I broke up by naming into category groups to make it easier visually for respondents to select from.  I already had selected ‘Allow multiple answers’ under Anwer type.

What I needed to do was to right click on every one of the group category names per below (Digital Tools being one) and allow Multiple Answer Within Question).  I even had an Other Specify text option with an Other group name that I did the same for.  You will see per below that this then allowed multiple answer check boxes to then appear across the entire list.  I did also want randomization across the list, which is allowed at the group level (advanced choice randomization).  I hope this helps others.

Hi @yve872,

I’m glad support got back to you in a timely manner! Could you provide the solution they offered? It would help out future Community members who might find themselves in a similar situation. Thank you!

If yve872 is using a multiple-choice question, I think it could be a similar situation as this thread, where the choice within group is selected as Single Answer within Question by default and it will need to be change to Multiple Answer within Question.
