JS code to add time stamps for question unload/onload

Hi there,I know next to nothing about JS. I added two embedded variables to a survey (timeStampPRE and timeStampPOST). Now I am trying to get these variables to populate with the time when a participant starts and ends a key block within the survey.I tried adding javascipt to the question before the key block...Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnUnload(function(){var timeStampPRE = new Date();});and the next question after the key block....Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function(){ var timeStampPOST = new Date();});But the fields show up as blank. How can I get these timestamps to show up in the embedded data fields?Thank you!Liz

Accessing Multi-Select Answers and Populating to Embedded Data

I am currently trying to add all selected options from three different multi-select questions into one drop-down question so the user can select which of their selected programs is their primary program of interest. Based on this question (https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/9584/multiple-choice-track-individual-selected-choices-in-piped-text) I learned that this isn't possible to do without JavaScript, so I built out my code, but for some reason, it is not populating to the embedded data fields I set up. I know it's getting the correct data and my for loops are looping through the arrays correctly. Repeat Headers in Matrix Table

Hello,I'm looking to repeat my headers at various intervals within my long Matrix Table. I have seen a Javascript code circling around - but unsure of how to use it, and was hoping to get some help!For example after question 3, 7, 10, etc. based on how the questions are "grouped" together.

I could't run App Feedback I always get error in the logs

Refer to previous answer with shortlist

Hi community,I have in other softwares been able to create a list that mirrors the answers from a question, but with a shorter text-version. When I pipe in the answer from a previous question, I can pipe in a shorter text than the original answer. I have not figured out a system for this in Qualtrics. Help please :)! Best, Lise

Hide a graphic using Java Script

Hi all,Apologies for what is no doubt a basic query. I haven't been able to find what I need through searching these forums. I am a complete beginner with Java script so anything I did find was not basic enough for me to understand.I am seeking assistance with producing java script code that would display a question/graphic based on the selection made in an earlier question.IF Q7 = 1 OR 2 OR 23 OR 56 OR 209, etc...THEN SHOW THIS QUESTIONNormally I would do this through display logic but the question options are in the hundreds so limits to display logic conditions rule this out.I would very much appreciate if anyone was able to talk me through the code needed to show/hide a question based on certain recode values.Many thanksChris

How to hide text based on previous answer

Hi community, I am hopelessly new in Qualtric and need your help. I need to create a information page summing up some of your previous answers. Some answers are meaningless to include, whereas others are needed. Removing pre-entered responses for duplicated question block using JS code

I’ve created a survey that recycles a block of questions in survey flow for a series of 40 photos (each in their own block). I’ve used this approach as I want respondents to answer this same set of questions for a random subset of photos. However, when the survey is run, previous responses to the question block appear pre-entered at each subsequent showing. One solution would be to instead copy the block in the survey itself so that each photo has its own question block. However, this makes editing the survey cumbersome due to the number of photos.I wondered, is it possible to use JS code to remove the previously entered responses for the block of questions (questions are of a variety of styles, e.g., text, multiple choice). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Minimum Word Count

Hello, I have searched for the answer to this question in the Community and have contacted Qualtrics for support, but I can't seem to find an answer. I am attempting to create a scholarship application for our Honors Program that includes an essay. The essay must be a minimum of 500 words. So far, I have tried to use custom validation and JavaScript to show the number of words typed as well as validate that the user has input more than 500 words. They won't be able to submit the application unless this minimum word count is met. How can I change the CSS to re-size the width of a response box?

Hi all! Hope everyone is well! I'm looking to find out if I can re-size a box that asks users to input a dollar value in my survey?Specifically, I'd like to increase the width of each box containing the '0's. Integrating data from previous respondents into survey

I have a survey with a question asking respondents about their opinion on x, measured on a numeric scale. I would like to have a variable mu_xthat tells me at any given time the average value on all responses of other (previous) respondents on x. I would like to include this variable mu_xin the same questionnaire at a later point. (So obviously this won't work for the first respondent, for whom there haven't been any previous reponses.)Is this possible in Qualtrics and how?

How to change Custom Validation when a timer runs out

Hello everybody!The goal for the participants of my survey is to solve as many exercises as possible in a limited amount of time.Every exercise consist of a five-choice "Constant Sum"-Question, where the participants have to give their answers. These answers are checked via Custom Validation (Only one answer per choice is correct) and when the participant clicks the Next Button and all the answers are correct, the next exercise appears. If not, an error message is shown to the participants and they have to solve the same exercise again.I implemented a timer that spans pages that I found here: https://medium.com/@mc_bloomfield/javascript-and-qualtrics-getting-started-34f113cbeaaaThe problem I have right now, is that if the timer is up, the participants should not be able to finish their current exercise and the questionblock should be finished right then and there. Making text on end of survey messages responsive

Hi there, From what I can tell the end of survey message (managed via the messages library) is not responsive in the same way the question text is. Any tips for aligning this in the HTML / CSS so that the respondent experience is consistent when they move from a survey to a end of survey message.

How can we compare the total of a constant sum question against an embedded data using java script?

Hi,I need to compare the sum of a constant sum question against an embedded field data and if the survey should not allow the user to continue if the sum is more than then embedded data. The embedded data comes from the contact panel and will have a numeric value. The Qualtrics only provide validations to check the sum against a static number. I do not know anything about java script, but I think this can be done using a js in the question. Any help is very much appretiated.Thanks!Sree

async and await Javascript operators are not recognised in the Javascript editor

Hi,I will be using Javascript code in a Qualtrics question to run a Javascript game of Tetris. I have put this code in the Javascript editor however it appears that the Javascript operators async and await are not able to be recognised in the Qualtrics Javascript editor. It says "Invalid JavaScript! You cannot save until you fix all errors: Unexpected token function." However, when I remove async and await from the Javascript code there is no problem and the code is able to be saved so there appears to be something with async and await that isn't recognised by Qualtrics?Could you please advise me on what to do? It would be really great if I could get this up and running as the async and await operators are essential for what I want to do with the code.Thank you for your help!

Questions pop up while participant is reading a text

 I would like to design a survey in which the participant reads a lengthy passage over multiple pages. Every 2-3 minutes, I would like a question to pop up for them to answer. After answering the question, they will continue to read where they left off. Is something like this possible to design on Qualtrics?

Change the color of a multiple choice box based on the choice description?

Hello,I have a multiple choice question with numerous appointment slots. The MC choices are programmed to show appointments in the five business days after the survey is accessed. Once a participant chooses an appointment slot, the choice will disappear for other users automatically (until I reset the quota for that slot).This is what the question looks like so far:I'd like each MC box to be a certain color depending on which day of the week it shows. For example, all boxes starting with "Monday" would be red, all boxes starting with "Tuesday" would be orange, and so on. This should hold even when the number of appointments per weekday changes.I've seen a few posts already on changing MC text color already (e.g., https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/2877/net-promoter), but I'm not too familiar with Javascript and I'm having trouble using the Qualtrics functions. Thank you in advance for any feedback or suggestions!

How do I activate the text entry box without using a mouse to click on the text box?

Hi,I have set up a survey which involves respondents viewing a picture and typing a response in the text entry box. I would like the text entry box to activate as soon as respondents enter a page on the survey so that they can type responses immediately and without having to move the mouse cursor to click on the box to type. This will help the survey be more efficient as reaction times are recorded. Does anyone have an idea on how to achieve this, or if there is a specific code I can use to activate the text box?Thank you

Hi,I am wondering if there is Javascript to display how many remaining characters are left in the character validation of an open-end/write in box so the respondent see that before getting stopped by an error message. Like twitter where it will tell you how many characters remain 0/250.. Thanks!

Unable to resolve error in Qualtrics Initialization

Header does not pass through in filmmaker but works when I copy into command line

Custom format to account for 30+ items within a Pick, Group, Rank question

I'm attempting to use a Pick, Group, Rank question type that is asking survey takers to review 30+ items and drag 9 to one box (based on specific criteria) and 9 to another box. My challenge is that the item list is too long, thereby making it impossible for items lower on the list to be dragged to the boxes above. I increased the height of the boxes to the point where the combined heights account for the total height of the list but this doesn't work as I'm still unable to drag an item lower on the list to the box that resides above the fold (or vice versa). Additionally I tried applying CSS to sort the list by two and three columns. The problem with this method is that item names are confined to a relatively small area width-wise, thereby leading to the names text-wrapped to the point of being unable to read easily.
