I am trying to create two types of sum variables (within the StatsiQ workspace).
First, I am not sure if StatsiQ is the best way to try to do these functions.
(1) I want to create a variable that sums all the selections of a “select all that apply variable.”
For example, if the participant selected 4 of the options, the new variable would =4.
(2) This may require two steps/two new variables, but I have a matrix question where respondents answered on a scale of 1 to 5 for a series of items. I want to create a variable that reduces this to a binary response (if 1-4 is selected = 1, if 5 is selected = 0), then I want to sum across all the items in the matrix.
So if they answered on the scale from 1-4 for 10 of the items, and responded on the scale with 5 for 10 more items, the new variable would be = 10.
I did not have the foresight to try to create these as an embedded data field before collecting the data.
