Custom Code

Hi All,I have developed some code which counts the words in a text box (as apposed to the count of characters). When the maximum number is reached (eg. 50) it will disable the next button and also disable any typing except for the delete key, copy / cut / paste operations, undo and the cursor keys. This works as expected in Windows 10 Chrome / Edge but not on an Android Chrome Browser. I've read a few articles online about android being a problem but not managed to find a solution. It's something to do with event.preventDefault(). My code is below and I am hoping that I've done the hard bit and it's just a simple step to make it operate as expected on an Android. Thanks in advanceRod Pestell Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnReady(function(){ //code to report number of word and limit to maxwords (or the variable so that it's easier to change) // helpful source: https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/2337/limit-the-number-of-words-in-the-text-box#:~:text=Put%20maximum%20c

Hi all,I am trying to randomly draw an entry from an array (using JavaScript) and then access this later in the question text. For this, I included the following JS in the welcome page:Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function(){   // initialize random gender (3x)   function randGend() {      var gendArray = ['Male', 'Female']; // initialize array of genders to choose from      var randGender = gendArray[(Math.random() * gendArray.length) | 0]; // randomly choose gender      return randGender; }   var genderPlayer11 = '0'   genderPlayer11.push(randGend()); // save a random gender   var genderPlayer12 = '0'   genderPlayer12.push(randGend()); // save a random gender   var genderPlayer13 = '0'   genderPlayer13.push(randGend()); // save a random gender as genderPlayer1   Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedData("genderPlayer11", genderPlayer11); // make available    Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedData("genderPlayer12", genderPlayer12); // make available    Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbedde

Hi community! In the second column ("begin after what goal?") of the following side-by-side question, I need to make the text box in just the first row read-only:How can I make one specific cell read-only in a side-by-side question? If this absolutely cannot be done in side-by-side, but you have a solution for a simple text-entry question, I'll take that! The identifier for that cell is this: ${q://QID240%231/ChoiceTextEntryValue/4/1}Thanks!P.S. Separately, If you happen know know some JS that would strip any line breaks/carriage returns that users input in that first column, that would be a MUCH appreciated bonus!!!

Hello,I have a form field question and i would like to hide the intial column.I am using the below code to try to hide the column but the entire form gets hidden.jQuery("#"+this.questionId+" .td").css("display","none"); I would like to hide the highlighted section so the text box will be left aligned.Any help on this is much appreciated."Note: Need is a to use a form field as this data is then setup in a workflow that gets fed into google sheets, any other format / question type doesnt seem to work for the reporting bit as they are migrating from Google forms to a qualtrics survey."

I've created a grouping question in which participants group a set of 10 media in up to 5 groups and then name these groups (I used these instructions for this step: https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/1219/how-to-allow-subjects-to-specify-their-own-group-names-in-the-pick-group-rank-question-type). I later ask the participants to reassign the media to the groups they made by creating a second grouping question with the names of the groups piped in from the previous question. Next I'd like to produce a score for them that reflects how many of the media they re-grouped in the same way. For example: the first time they group media it results in this: Group 1(a,b,c ), Group 2 (d,e) Group 3 (f); and the second time they group media it results in this: Group 1(a,b) Group 2 (c,d,e), Group 3 (f), so I'd want to return a score of 5/6 - how many media they grouped in the same way. I'm assuming I need to assign a value of 1 to each of these media and then subtract based on the

Hey Community, I'm currently struggeling with an somwhow simple question but can't find a solution. I have a regular multiple choice question. The question text shows an portait image. I would now like to show the answers beside the image, not below as it is by default. I have tried to float the elements but can not access them through javascript from within the question. Changing the CSS in look & feel is no solution as I don't want to float it on the whole survey, just in one question. So, has anybody ever faced the issue and found a solution? Thanks in advance.

I have a survey where the last question is a structured single choice question with two possible choices. One of the choices is an image, embedded with a link that will redirect the respondent to another page. I want the survey to work in a way that if the respondnet clicks the image/link and is redirected...the survey is closed in that instant and the responses recorded. (I also have the survey programmed so that if they click the radio button, and hit 'next' they are redirected to that link...but I want both options to work). I actually have something similar set up in another survey, where if someone clicks a link in a Text/Image question, they are redirected and their survey closed and responses recorded...but I can't remember or figure out how I did that. Here is the java script I used in that survey:jQuery("#clicked").click(function(event) {    Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedData("clicked", "1");    jQuery("#NextButton").click();  });I think the part in bold is what needs

Hi All, I am trying to change the radio button border color and size for a single select multiple choice question and it won't change no matter what CSS code I try. I have successfully changed the radio button border for my likert matrix table, but the other radio buttons are stuck as-is. In this image you can see that the matrix radio buttons are light gray and border is 1px. But the region question shows dark radio buttons that are darker gray and 2px. Any ideas? Here is the CSS code I am using (there is other CSS included to change the backgrounds of text boxes and questions - not sure if that could be effecting my issue). It is the last bit of CSS code that correctly updated the matrix radio buttons:.Skin .InputText, input[type=text], .Skin label.MultipleAnswer, .Skin label.MultipleAnswer.q-focused, .Skin label.SingleAnswer{background-color:rgb(249,249,249)!important;}.Skin .InputText, input[type=text] {border-radius: 1px !important;border: solid 1px #b3b3b3 !important;}.Skin

Hi Community, for a replication study we would need to realize five vertical sliders to represent quintiles for distribution (constant sum: 100%). See pictureany tipps how to implement that with custom code? Anybody done anything like it? Thanks!

I have a question from some developer colleagues about *how to exclude Qualtrics code in automated test scripts--most likely Python or Javascript* -- to prevent a pop up from displaying or from Qualtrics running during an automated test. This would save developer time because they would not need to click through a popup in order to determine whether the code was working correctly. I haven't seen any documentation about this, so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

is there any way by which we can hide the first blank choice in drop down of drill down question? jQuery("#"+this.questionId+" select option:first-child").prop({"disabled":true,"hidden":true}); above line can remove only first choice blank space in drop down.

I have a drill-down question that is from a csv file with 3 columns, where the last column is unique. Basically this is just a way to help someone find a specific category. e.g. Job Industry -> Job Group -> Job TitleTo make it easier, I would like a user to be able to first just try to search for their final answer, (e.g. Job Title). However, I want to make sure the previous categories are correct (industry + group). I have found that I can use the Select2 for searching the drill-down, but I can only get it working in order (i.e. they search first group, then it lets them search second group). So naturally I can make a single list to search of just the last category. However, I would then want to take that value and pipe -- or some other thing (this is what I am asking for advice/help on) -- right below their search and autofill the 3 groups so the user can verify that the larger categories are the ones they thought/selected. For example, they select 'Teacher', but the exact match

Hi! I start saying that I am really inexperienced with javascript and HTML. In my survey, I have a button that, when toggled, displays a video. I also have a variable controlling that the respondents have clicked on the button. PROBLEM: I would like to add a variable that tells me how many seconds have passed when the user clicks on the video (best option) or on the button for the first time.To my understanding, the solutions could be 2: 1) I create a variable that gives me the timestamp of when the user visualizes the page and one of when he clicks the video/button and then i subtract them; 2) I create a variable of the second passed until the first click on video/buttonThe problem is that I have no clue how to do it... Even if I have looked for solutions around the web. I hope you can help me.CURRENT CODE:JAVAQualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function(){/*Place your JavaScript here to run when the page loads*/  var button1Click = 0  jQuery("#button1").click(function () {    Qualtrics.

I'm using JavaScript to hide a question and then click the next button. However, I'm sometimes getting issues on the subsequent screen... with the next button then being clicked on the subsequent screen as well. It's almost like I need to clear the Java cache before moving to the next screen or on the next screen??Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function() { jQuery("#"+this.questionId).hide(); jQuery("#Buttons").hide();}); Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnReady(function() {jQuery('#NextButton').click();//this.clickNextButton();});I'm also sometimes getting the message above...

I have a Matrix Table, Profile, Drop Down List. Each list has unique categories, but I want a user to have the ability to select multiple answers. Any idea how to do this? I know I can do the Matrix Table, Profile, Multiple Answer, but some answers will have only 3 and others will have up to 8 options to choose from. I like the Multiple Selection Box option, but I will have multiple categories that I want customers to review and I want them to all be within the same question. I currently have this javascript to only show Scale Points if the option is not blank. Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnReady(function() { jQuery("#"+this.questionId+" select option:first-child").text("Select one"); jQuery("#"+ this.questionId + " option").each(function () { if (jQuery(this).text().length < 2) { jQuery(this).hide(); } }); });

Hi there, In my Qualtrics survey I am trying to get the next button to appear either after participants had made a response on a slider or autoadvance after 5 seconds. I've only been trying to figure out how to do this by using the mousedown command as I'm not sure how I'd code dragging a slider. This is what I have so far, its advancing after 5 seconds but the next button isn't appearing. Any help would be much appreciated!var mouseDown = 0;document.body.onmousedown = function() {  ++mouseDown;}document.body.onmouseup = function() { --mouseDown;}Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function() { this.hideNextButton(); if (mouseDown) { this.showNextButton(); } else { this.clickNextButton.delay(5); }  });Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnReady(function(){ /*Place your JavaScript here to run when the page is fully displayed*/});Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnUnload(function(){ /*Place your JavaScript here to run when the page is unloaded*/});Please note I've never used JavaScript before!

In block 1, I would like to have picture #1 in the footer. In block 2, I would like to have picture #2. How can I accomplish this?

Hi All, A little new here to the platform. I contacted Qualtrics support to see if I can apply some custom code for a Carry Forward question, but they mentioned this might require some javascript to show correctly. So the initial question is a Multiple Answer Multiple Choice question. I used the Carry Forward Choices to populate the next question (so if the survey taker selects 5 out of the 10 responses in Q1, they then see those 5 responses in the Carry Forward question, which is a Single Answer Multiple Choice question, and they select one answer from those 5 responses). 2 of those responses are exclusive and if selected, I have Display logic to not show the Carry Forward question. I also have Display logic to only show the Carry Forward question IF more than one response is selected from the Multiple Answer Multiple Choice question. What I want to do is if only one response is selected in the Multiple Answer Multiple Choice question, I basically want to auto-populate the Carry F

I want to compare 2 constant sum question choices. Both the questions having same choices. Each choices value of this question should be less than or equal to the previous question choices value. If not, participant cannot move forward and it should throw error message

Hi, I need to play a video clip (embedded from YouTube), which participants can view only once, and cannot pause. I can work out how to disable video controls for this, but I also need to somehow record multiple reaction times for the video (either using a mouse click or button press), without auto advancing to the next question. Is this possible?!

I am trying to embed a video, either from Youtube or my files (not sure which one is easier with what I am hoping to do), that plays full-screen and automatically when displayed and does not show any controls. Ideally, I would like the ability to click somewhere on the video to allow it to pause and re-click to start again, but only this feature. I assume I would need a custom code in order to accomplish this (if at all possible), however I am very much a novice when it comes to this. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Hello, QXM Community For my research - I have to prepare a drill-down question referring to a. “regions” b. “provinces in the region,” c. “municipalities in each province,” d. “school’s id for each municipality” in the Italian context. Unfortunately, the .csv I’m using exceeds the 30row limit, and there’s no way to overcome this problem (even splitting the file into other CSVs) without Javascript. So far, I have understood how to use Javascript in Qualtrics, but I would like some help making the question work. In particular, as far as I can understand in some previous comments, I read that I should store my data in a local JS array of objects or use ajax to get it from an external source. Nonetheless, I would like to know precisely the steps that I should take regarding:-            The storage of the data-            The script to populate the drill down in Qualtrics and to make it work (so that if someone selects a region, they can select their city among that region’s cities and so

To later exclude participants based on short answer time, I would like to set up timers for all questions. I prefer using javascript for that because the timing questions have not been working for me - especially when it comes to randomization. Is there a way to implement this somehow in the survey flow so that every question is just recorded in terms of time spent? Alternatively, maybe there is a way to implement this for certain types of questions only (say, only for MC questions)? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi everyone! I'm trying to restrict the number of times (up to 6 times) people can listen to an audio clip within my survey. Additionally, I would like to track the number of times that same audio clip is played (i.e. 1-6 times). I've been browsing the online community for help, but can't seem to get the code to work properly in my survey. This is my first time using Qualtrics, so if anyone could provide any guidance at all, it would be very much appreciated!

Hi guys, I need to conduct a psychology experiment asking participants to type in their thought within certain time limits. Whenever they press the blue button, a new text block will appear and hide the previous one. This will last for 12 mins. This is the Javascript I use:Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnload(function(){ let loopNumber = Number("${lm://CurrentLoopNumber}") if (loopNumber > 1) { let timeLimit = "${e://Field/time_limit}" let startTime ="${e://Field/start_time}" let currentTime = new Date().getTime() console.log("Loop: " + loopNumber) console.log("Start Time: " + startTime) console.log("Current Time: " + currentTime) let timeElapsed = currentTime - startTime console.log("Time elapsed: " + timeElapsed) if(currentTime - startTime >= timeLimit) { Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedData("time_is_up", 1); this.clickNextButton() } } });And this is what I set However, the problem is after 12mins (now is 15s), unless you physically press the blue button to termin
