Carry forward selected choices, but not the "I do not use this" choice

Hello,
in our survey the participants can choose between multiple answers. Let's say it's like this:
What is your favorite fruit?
Bananas
Apples
Oranges
I do not eat fruits.
Every fruit they have selected should be carried forward to a next question to ask them for each fruit selected, if they eat them at work or at home. But "I do not eat fruits" is carried forward, too but of course I would not want it to be carried forward. I tried to make it exclusive and even added a "Display this question" behavior, but it seems the "carry forward statements" function is dominant which means everything which is ticked will be carried forward. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks!

Hi!
Without knowing too much of the design, I wonder if you've tried using Skip Logic? That would in turn mean that the next "home or work" question would not be displayed if they'd selected "I do not eat fruits" in the previous one.
There are some rules with the next (and potentially hidden) question having to be on a new page, so you'll have to play around with that as well. I seem to remember skip logic only works from one page to the next, or from one Block to the next.

Hope that helped!

Hi El_,
personally, I would avoid the carry-forward function. I think using display logic should be much easier to handle. By the way, you might consider a display logic for the follow up questions: display if I don't eat fruits is not selected ;-)

Best regards

Rudi

Hi Rudi,
thank you for your answer.
I need the carry-forward function here. The selected fruits are important. If someone only eats apples and bananas, I only want these two to be shown for the "do you eat them at work or at home" question.

Hi el_,
maybe it would be easier to help you if you'd let us know which question type the follow up questions are ;-)
if they are multi select questions you could add these as answer categories and use the display logic accordingly

Best regards

Rudi

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/43311#Comment_43311Hi Mattias,
yes thank you, this seems to work as I want it!
My next questions needs to be on the next page anyway as "carrying forward statements" does not work on the same page.

https://community.qualtrics.com/XMcommunity/discussion/comment/43313#Comment_43313I think I understand what you mean.
Yes, the at work or home question is multiple answers as well.

Thank you Rudi, I tried your approach. The display logic for each choice is a good way to work around carrying forward choices if I would like to :)
