When would using multiple Directories make sense? | XM Community

Just curious. Why about when it would make sense to use more than 1 Directory? I looked at a few old posts, and only see a benefit when wanting to separate data from very different cohort groups (e.g. Staff vs Customers vs Suppliers).

 

Is there more reason to have multiple directories?

Hi @Eldon,

I see two possible answers at the moment.

  • Contact frequency rules/Identity resolution rules:
    • In case you want to set contact frequency rules exception you have the limit of 19 per Directory. In this case you could need another Directory to have 19 more.
    • In case you need to apply different deduplication logics based on data you have, you may need, for example, to set Identity resolution based on Email within a Directory and another embedded data in a second one.
  • Further customer segmentation:
    • You may need to organize your customer dividing them depending on the rules
    • You may have a lot of automations running on and consequently a huge number of contact lists. In this case, you could avoid caos within your data.
