Topic: Custom Validation Messages

 

If you’ve taken a survey before and attempted to proceed to the next page only to be stopped by a vague error message, then you completely understand the feeling of frustration a respondent feels when they don’t know what needs to be fixed to continue. 

 

These experiences dissuade respondents from taking your future surveys and may even lead them to abandon their current survey session altogether. To minimize these negative experiences, we can choose clear default messages or create descriptive custom validation messages. By creating custom messages, we can ensure that respondents are always aware of the changes that need to be made to their responses, reduce respondents’ frustration, and maintain a high data quality by reducing common errors.

Where to find this feature:

  1. After selecting your question, enable Add validation
  2. Select Custom.
  3. Create your validation logic
  4. Click Load a Saved Message.
  5. Select My Library and then New Message.
  6. Give your new validation message a name so you can easily identify it in the future.
