Custom Code

Hi everyone, I'm back here to make a second question regarding the Javascript custom code. Last time, I was asking hot to custom code a Matrix Table with multiple drop down lists having a different number of possible choices. The code had the aim to hide empty rows deriving from the smaller number of items in some drop downs. Thanks to this community I was able to resolve the problem (this is the link to the question: https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/2052/how-to-custom-code-multiple-drop-down-lists-with-diverse-number-of-choices-to-hide-empty-items#latest). Now everything works with Firefox and Google Chrome browsers but, if I use Safari, the code seems to be not working (below you can see a picture of what I see on the screen). Do you have any suggestions to solve this problem? Have you ever faced similar issues with Safari? Thank you very much in advance, Claudio !

At the start of my survey I have a text entry question where only a certain range of numbers are valid so that we can keep track of study participants, and make sure that they type in the actual ID number that is given to them. This is great, but it would be better to make each valid answer for that question (a participant's ID number) valid for only one use. For example, if someone enters the ID number "304", it is only valid for that first use so that if someone else tries to type in "304" it is no longer valid. Is there any way to do this?

I would like to display response answer choices, 'Don't know', 'Please skip' and 'Does not apply' differently than the rest of the response options. I do not mean switching the format of the question, but I would like them further out to the side (bigger space between them and the other response options, for example). I would like this done for every type of question format. Is there any way to do this? My goal is to try and guide participants away from these responses, but I still want to provide them with these options. Thank you!

I have descriptive text saying "Please press play.", and an audio file under it. I already have it so that the audio player disappears after it is done playing, using jQuery('audio').on('ended', function() { jQuery(this).hide(); }); but I would like it so that the text disappears at the same time as the audio player.

I need to assign an embedded variable to each respondent based on the zip code they enter near the beginning of the survey. Ultimately every zip code across the state of Oklahoma would be assigned to one of 29 different districts that would need to be piped into the survey as an embedded field. I think this can be accomplished using javascript, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently designing an experiment that a participant listens to a sound file and records the short answer to it. The current design allows participants to record their responses while listening to sound files. I want the subjects to record their responses after the sound file is finished. In other words, I would like to have a text entry box at the end of the sound file where the participants can record their answers. I would be really grateful if you could let me know the code to make this possible.FYI, below is the code that I have made for each trial. So far, I have added codes regarding "Next Button' and "setTimeout", so that the participants cannot move on to the next trial by themselves, but automatically move on to the next trial after 15000 ms. I've implemented the following javascript code to use the autocomplete feature within the text field question in Qualtrics.Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.addOnReady(function(){ var textOptions = [ "Adam", "Athelney", "Baring"]; jQuery('.QR-' + this.questionId).autocomplete({ source: textOptions, minLength: 3 });});The code works; however, the autocomplete suggestions appears at the end of the page (below "Powered by Qualtrics" URL link). See the first screenshot:I am not sure whether this is a bug within Qualtrics; however, I've tested the same code on an account provided by a different University (see the second screenshot below) where the same code works as expected (the suggestion appears right below the question, not at the end of the page) so I am left puzzled by this behavior.Any ideas what may cause this behavior and how to resolve it? Hi!I randomized the next button position in order to placed it horizontally in three positions (left, center, right). During the question transition the button flashes in the original location before appearing in the corresponding one (e.g. flashes in the left, and then appear in the right side where it should be). Since my code is in AddOnReady, I tried to change in AddOnLoad but still doing the same.Thank you in advance for your help!

Greetings all, I have an ask from a user that I'm hoping I can get an answer on. The situation is that a survey is being planned where images will be shown and respondent's opinions on the images asked. The issue is that the researcher would like a way to help ensure respondents are dissuaded from downloading the image to their computer (and potentially violate their NDA by sharing the image or posting it).The ask was if there is a way for Qualtrics to apply a "dynamic watermark" to the image (using piped text). So, the image in the survey would just be the base image, but when you enter your email address in a previous block, that email address is stored as an embedded data field and then later, the image is displayed with a watermark on top of the image that is the email address (pulled from the embedded data field). Is that possible somehow? Or is thee a better way to lock down/watermark images in a survey?Thanks!

In reference to the photo, how do I turn off text wrap in the items column and widen the width of it. Hi,I have a survey in which I want to use data from a csv file, in which each row has several relevant values. Let's say - name, ID, address, description etc. This csv file contains about 300 rows.I want to randomly select 30 out of these 300, and then display 30 questions to the user, where the only difference between them are the values for the fields read for the csv. For example, I will have 30 similar questions, where in the first one I'll show the name, ID, address extracted from one chosen row, the second will show the name, ID , address extracted from another chosen row and so on. I will then have another set of questions, in which I would want to pick 30 rows from the original csv, that were not selected before.So basically my questions are:1) How to randomly select rows from the csv, and then randomly select rows that were not selected yet?2) How to read values from the csv using javascript?I'm not very familiar with javascipt so any help would be very much appreciated!I saw

I need to widen the width of the answer item column in a standard drag and drop question in a survey. This is no option for this in the rich text editor. Qualtrics support suggested I could do this with custom code, but they could not help. they suggested I contact this community. Could anyone provide guidance on how to do this?

I need to widen the Drag & Drop boxes within a Pick, Sort, and Rank question type. Dear Qualtrics-community, I'm currently implementing a code to roll a random dice on Qualtrics, and I found great help & code in this forum to implement a random dice, see e.g., https://www.qualtrics.com/community/discussion/8840/roll-a-dice-using-javascript-in-qualtrics). In my survey, I want the participants to roll the dice one or three times (depending on condition), and therefore I would like to double check whether they have actually rolled the dice one or three times depending on condition. I've found a few possibilities to implement this, however, so far I couldn't make any of them work. I know that you can hide and show the next Button simply with the function this.showNextButton(); or this.hideNextButton();, I could also enable/disable the next button with this.enableNextButton(); or this.disableNextButton(); until a condition is met. So I thought of simply making it impossible to proceed until the participant has rolled the dice once or three times depending on condition. My

I am running an implicit association test in which I am using some code I found online that allows respondents to answer by pressing the key that corresponds to a certain answer choice. The problem I am running into is some people are still using mouse clicks to answer and I am really wanting all respondents to answer with a key press. Is there any code out there that will actually disable mouse click responses in addition to enabling keystrokes?Thanks in advance!

My data base has over 100,000 descriptions; each description is about 100 words. The data is confidential. Therefore, the database is kept offline and cannot be piped through a web service (unless there is very secure authentication). Furthermore, the descriptions are fixed and will not change during the administration of the survey.For a question in a survey, I want to choose one object at random (from the ~100,000 objects), display its description, and ask for its evaluation. What is the best way to do so? One option is that I could program all descriptions into a javascript script and then use a random draw to choose which description to show. Would that work or do you think that might cause the server to crash or become unbearably slow? Is there a limit to the length of the javascript that might preclude having that much infor

I have a function that detects any changes in the user's window and when a certain width/height is reached, I want to alert the user and disable the next button.What I am trying to achieve is something along the lines of:if (condition == True) {disableNextButton()} else {enableNextButton()}This needs to go in the Header, under Look & Feel as this is a function that will apply on all pages of my survey.This sort of code work perfectly when I put it in individual questions as I can use the this object as follows:if (condition == True) {this.disableNextButton()} else {this.enableNextButton()}However, I can't seem to find an alternative for applying that in the Header and workarounds seem quite cumbersome.Any ideas?

Hej I would like to randomize information, so my respondents see a "profile" of a candidate, who is for instance male or female, working or not working, and attending the gym or doing vounteer work. So i would like to randomly select one fact about a person from different categories, and show these informations to my respondents – meaning it is not the choice answers i am trying to randomize, but instead the given information. Can somebody help me on this?

Hi all,It looks like there is 1 previous post (link) that discussed this but the code doesn't work for us.We have a Loop & Merge block (to be looped for X times), and we want to add a timestamp to track the completion of EACH loop. (eg Time 1, Time 2, for each of the 2 Looped trials). We tried and found: Timestamp works in non-Looped blocks but doesn't work when included in the Looped block. Timestamp (eg Piped Text current date) can be presented to User when included in Looped block, but the Timestamps do not show in the Exported Data File.But we could not figure out how to add timestamps to Looped blocks. Could anyone help? Is there something we need to add to the JavaScript and/or Survey Flow (for embedded data?).

I'm working on my experiment which consists of two parts; rating and choices.First, participants will rate multiple products on a continuous scale sliders (1-100). In total, they will rate approximately 60 items. Second, participants will make a choice between two products (20 questions). We will pair the products based on the scores that participant filled in the rating section. So, the questions will be customized and differed for each participant.For example:First, participants rated:- Item A: 40- Item B: 100 - Item C: 20- Item D: 80Second, for Question No. 1, we want to pair the items which scored above 50 in the first part, while Question No. 2, we will pair the items which scored below 50. With this logic, then the participants will see on their screen:Question 1: Item B and DQuestion 2: Item A and CHowever, I am still struggling on how to design this logic, so the customization on the second part runs automatically for every questions. ​I hope I informed you sufficient

I discovered that if I select "Yes" to the "Columns" option in the options provided by Qualtrics at the right of the question, the question is narrowed. This is good, but can I make it narrower? I am distributing a survey using two methods -- via URL and via 2-way SMS. I need the end of survey message to display a date/time stamp with the local time of the survey participant. I am using a piece of js that I found elsewhere in Community (thanks!) to capture the local date/time of the user. It works great in the browser: var d = new Date(); Qualtrics.SurveyEngine.setEmbeddedData("localdate", d.toString());But I really need something equivalent to this for the 2-way SMS method, but I'm assuming thjs is out of the question when using this method. Any other suggestions? I can't just pipe in the date/time the normal way because it's giving everyone a time stamp in Eastern Daylight Time (my current time zone). Any other ideas? I have the slider the way I want it to look in the survey builder area (see below)....However, in the preview, the spacing is inconsistent for the slider labels. The mobile version looks slightly better (and I'm not sure if it can be improved, since the labels are so long they will necessarily be scrunched up) but the desktop version looks very sloppy.
