Qualtrics Platform

Our organization does lots of multi-mode surveys (e.g. email and SMS outreach) but Qualtrics forces you to create a new link for each distribution, even if it’s the same respondent for the same survey. To avoid duplicates, we’ve been using a tedious but effective process of sending email distributions, then turning the individual survey links into shortened codes and re-uploading to pipe them into SMS messages. This has the added benefit of vastly reducing the survey link character length, which the FedRAMP platform we are required to use will not do otherwise. As of today, the change in the SMS distribution interface now forces you to insert a Survey URL through Qualtrics, which means that we can no longer send the same link by email and SMS. I have been advised by Qualtrics support that there is no way to fix this issue or revert to the old interface. Has anyone else experienced this or has any kind of workaround for this new loss of functionality?

I have a multi-choice question with the last option being "Other (please specify)." The text box appears below this text. Is it possible to have the text entry box beside the text instead of below?

Hi all- New to useing regex here and have read through quite a few of the forums on regex, however the use cases I’m seeing people use are only getting me about halfway to the validation I’m trying to add. I am trying to add validation so that the text needs to alwasy start with “ClassID” and end in a date format with no “/” or spaces, ie “ClassID083123”. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hello community,I’m trying to add new embedded data to a survey that already has 8,000+ responses. Both the field and the values are new to the survey, so I had to duplicate the current survey. Below are the steps I’ve takenI duplicated the survey I want to add the data to In the new survey, I created the new embedded data in ‘survey flow’ I exported the original survey in csv format I added the new embedded data column to the spreadsheet and saved it as csv. Imported the edited spreadsheet as csv into the new surveyHowever, the import is not mapping the questions. I’ve tried with tsv with the same result. A curious fact is that the mapping works properly when I import the spreadsheet with no edits, which makes me think something is wrong when saving the spreadsheet. Any ideas?  Thanks!Cristian

I have a list of topics analyzing my open-ended responses and I would like to create a visualization showing an aggregation of the sentiment labels in a more precise way than what is currently available. Current visualizations show each topic sentiment label as a separate line in a table. Example: What I would prefer (and what would be more readable) would be a table that shows a topic as the row and then a column for each sentiment label. Example: Is there a way to do this with the current system? Or a way to do something similar? I’ve played around with both the old and new Results tab visualization options and I can’t seem to find a good solution.​​​​​​​

The "update existing list members" checkbox is not selected, and the survey is accessible to the public through an anonymous link. Is there a method for Qualtrics to prevent generating a blank record every time a new entry is included in the contact list? I have attached a screenshot for reference. 

We want to counter balance a 2x2x2x2x2 (that’s 5 conditions) design in Qualtrics. I understand this could be done with 32 embedded elements with 5 embedded values each corresponding to the 5 conditions. You would then evenly present 1 of the 32 and then you would get a counterbalanced design. However, that seems incredibly tedious to do even if I am constructing it in Python and importing. Is there a better way? In a perfect world I would just have 5 separate randomizer for the 5 conditions but this will not counterbalance the whole study.

My supervisor and I are contemplating removing the QR code on recruitment material but we don’t know if that may have the opposite effect.

The QR code for my survey was created in preview mode. I have since updated the survey and published it, but the QR code takes me to the pre-published version of the survey. How do I get the QR code to update to the published survey? Thanks.

1. We have a multiple-choice question with 5 options. If someone selects the 2nd or3rd option, it will be coded as -Yes-. If the selected option is not 2 or 3, it will berecorded as -No-. And it all should be done by “Code” which is available in work flow.2. We are implementing this to ensure that we can retrieve this in dashboard data view.

  I have 6 options in Question Q8. Based on the following conditions, I want to configure the survey: ・Create a hidden variable: A hidden variable is used to categorize participants based on their response in Question Q8.・The variable is called 'MAIN OPTION'. This variable should store the option chosen by participants in Question Q8.・If a participant answers "No" to Question Q2, I want the 'MAIN OPTION' variable to be set to "Blue". Should I set quota or embedded data? I would appreciate if anyone can help with this. 

I have a long questionnaire (survey-1) and want to receive a response summary as pdf after each participant. However, I don’t want the whole questionnaire and embedded data on this file. To solve that, I created a second survey (survey-2) which consists of the questions that I am interested in seeing. The idea is that the participant will fill out survey-1, when they submit it, survey-2 (a shorter version of survey-1) pipes the answers from survey-1 and gets submitted automatically, sending me the response summary. How can I achieve this? Thank you. 

Hi everyone. I am looking to create some calculated variables in the Embedded Data section of the survey flow so that they appear alongside LoginID and other embedded variables. I am referencing the Math Operations documentation (https://www.qualtrics.com/support/survey-platform/survey-module/editing-questions/piped-text/math-operations/) so am enclosing the calculation with $e{} and removed the ${} around each embedded question.  The questions I am using are multiple choice and I set what the numerical value of each choice is on the Scoring settings page.Here’s an example of what one of the calculations looks like: However, when I’m looking at the results, this is what the embedded section looks like: It looks like it isn’t pulling the actual numbers. Any suggestions on how to fix this so it is doing the calculation is appreciated.

I created a survey. I field-tested survey and found out that I needed to update my survey flow. I applied the changes, then published the survey. I then disseminated the survey link - opening my study for study participants. Participants who had never been exposed to survey link were able to get into survey even though they were not eligible. My settings are all correct. All eligibility screening except this question works. I spoke with a colleague who was equally stumped. What is happening? This is an incredibly important study and I have deeply disappointed with Qualtrics.

Hi, I am trying to add scoring after each question. There are 8 different scoring categories. I have a nested randomized scoring structure for my survey (see image). I have found that I am able to get the scoring feature to work if I only create the categories within one randomizer (e.g., just creating categories for each “4 Answers” block). However, if I create all 8 categories, the scoring feature no longer works, meaning the survey doesn’t show whether the participant got the question right or wrong. Does anyone know a fix for this? Please let me know if there are any details I should add. 

Hello, I’m new here and would really appreciate some help from the professionals. I work at a university and a faculty member reached out regarding setting up individualized links for the survey for each respondent. They want the survey responses to remain confidential/anonymous, while also preventing duplicate responses from the same person.We have emails of where the links should be sent to, but I wanted to see if there was a way to generate only one link (that uses the above details) to send out to respondents. That way, it would make it easier, more concise, and save time while creating/sending multiple links. If my question doesn’t make sense, or if you need further clarification, please let me know and I am happy to provide what details I can.Any help is appreciated!

I have a list of 40,000 words that I'd like to test in a survey. But every respondent should only be asked about 20 of those. So it would look something like this:Respondent 1: “is w1 a real word?”; “is w2 a real word?”,…, “is w20 a real word?”.Respondent 2: is w21 a real word?” etc.Word subsets do not have to be drawn randomly, they can be presented in order (1-20, 21-40, 41-60, etc.).I have read through the answers in:However, I'm wondering if there is an easier alternative, 4 years later. I have tried the loop and merge function, but all it does is sample with replacement from the list of 40,000 words, so I get some words that are shown multiple times to various respondents and some words not shown at all. I am unfortunately not a programmer. Thank you so much.

I’m having an odd error where I can successfully get past my survey’s authenticator when I preview my survey, but if I try to login to the live version of the survey I get the “unable to login in with the information provided” error.

Hi, Can someone please help me set up my training account? I am trying to complete “Qualtrics platform essentials certification Journey (L1) and taking some courses which involves some challenges in between. For that I was directed to create a training account, however under my profile in Qualtrics all I can were “account setting, refresh account, and logout”. And to do this certification do I need to create a free trail account, or can i use my own account? Is there a limit to number of attempts and time for certification test? 

Hello everyone, I am asking a state, county and zip code address in one survey question. I select the drill down question type and when I tried to add the excel file (containing list of state, count and zip code) for answers, Qualtrics said Import failed. Drill Down CSV or TSV files can only have up to 10000 cells. Our system detects that you are trying to import 116415 cells into this Drill Down question. Please shorten the list, reduce the number of columns, or consider using a different question type. Is there any other way to do that? With regards,Pooja Chhetri.

I have a survey that is completely automated (contact list, distribution, API feed), and it gets hundreds of responses a day. I have a request to resend a survey to a contact who waited too long to respond (her link expired). I tried pulling this contact into a new distribution list and made sure the contact frequency was deactivated, but it failed to send. I believe I have to go into the survey and find the original distribution and delete it in order to resend the survey to the same emal address, but I can't do that with this massive a survey. Is there another way I'm not thinking of? I could send an anonymous link, understanding I'd be missing out on embedded data we have tied to this contact. I appreciate any ideas!Thanks - Leslie

Hi all,Is there a way to customisethe filename for a automated response export? I understand how to update the File Name Prefix. The difficulty that I’m having is with the way the job tags the date and .csv information to the end of my File Name Prefix. When I manually export response data, the date format on the file reads as ‘August’ however on the automated job it is YYYMMDD format. Any suggestions please? 

Hi everyone. I am looking to combine results from two surveys each taken by a different person into one individualized report. Here is the workflow I was envisioning. Person A takes Survey1 → triggers an email for Person B to take Survey2 → once Person B is done, their answers are piped back into Survey1 → reports with responses from both Survey1 and Survey2 are generated for each Person APlease let me know if this type of workflow is possible in Qualtrics and how best I can create each of those trigger points. Thank you! 

Hello, everyone! I am a beginner in Qualtrics. I started creating a survey for my study, and I encountered this issue:I created a verifiable question just to ensure that participants understand and follow instructions. In an a block, I created 2 questions in separate pages: Q1 on page 1 as the instructions page, and Q2 on page 2 as the verifiable question. I want participants to be sent back to the instructions page if they choose incorrect responses for Q2, but proceed to the next block if they choose the correct responses. I need help to achieve this.
